Intro to Katonah Yoga
Saturday November 12
15:00 - 18:00
This compact intensive, will introduce you to, and deepen the theory and practice of Katonah Yoga®. You will enjoy this if you are either a teacher or a practitioner of yoga.
There's a map in Katonah Yoga called the "Magic Square". If you've ever spent any time wondering why your right shoulder or left hip has started bothering you, you will absolutely love this. The theory is, your body is a navigation system, and an instrument with which to experience the world. What shows up in your body is not just the "wear and tear" of repetitive sports, but the under- or over-use of a particular aspect of being. A typical example of this is someone who spends a lot of time nurturing others. Maybe you're a mother of small children, or a nurse. If you are heavily invested in the well-being of others, you might not have enough time to devote to your own personal potential. Your left hip gets a bit sore. Why? Because this is where your body stores repetitive tasks. It's also the feminine side of your body. The yin side.
In this intensive and in Katonah Yoga, we use the Magic Square to breath, meditate, orient a pose, decipher the signals of the body and also to manage time. You'll be able to take this home with you, and superimpose it onto your thoughts, your body and your spirit.
You'll also hear reference to Taoism and the 5-element theory of TCM; participate in a revelatory yoga practice that makes geometric and architectural sense; and you'll discover a new perspective on the orientation of your self in time and space.
